Cranbrook v Anchorians

Anch’s drove to Cranbrook for the return match to play on a slippery, rain sodden pitch that resembled porridge.  Cranbrook were chasing promotion and were keen to put up a good display and registered a good win which will do their promotion prospects no harm.

Anchs kicked off with the rain driving into their face and chased well to put the home team under immediate pressure resulting in a knock on and a scrum to Anchs.  Anchs forwards drove on pushing the opposition backwards walking over their scrum and ended up with Cranbrook conceding a penalty.  Anthony O’Brien kicked the ball to touch 5-metres out and from the line out George Webb caught the ball cleanly.  As he hit the ground a driving maul was set up and a powerful drive rolled over the line to register the first try of the game for Dave Hadris and the powerful forwards.  Little did we know then that these were the only points we would score for the rest of the match as the conversion attempt by Richie Collins flew just wide of the posts.  Despite excellent play by the whole team in very poor conditions we couldn’t stop Cranbrook from registering 4 tries against us plus the indignity of a penalty try.  Sometimes it’s difficult to reconcile the results against the effort that was put in and this was no exception to this rule; the final score of 31-5 truly did not reflect the effort that the Anchs had put into this game.

Sterling effort by Wayne English, Dan Perry, Richie Kyle, Ben Davison, Tim Banner-Martin to name a few but Anchorians Man of the Match was awarded by Coach Alex Brown to Kenton Parbutt.

The next league game is on Saturday 03 March in Darland Avenue against Beccahamians.  Kick off at 3 pm.
