Anchorians v Erith
Following last week’s match
cancellation A’s wanted to really get into this match following the previous
week’s exemplary performance against Dartford.
Unfortunately their near neighbours, Erith failed to live up to
expectations. From the kick off A’s
showed their power up front with an impressive forwards try awarded to Alistair
Parker following a driving maul from 15 metres out within 3 minutes of the
start which was easily converted by Richie Collins. This was the start of what was to become a
significant rout as we registered another three tries by Adam Davison, Parker
and Adam ‘George’ Webb two of which were converted by Collins to end the half
at 26-0 to the home team. Impressive
individual performances were seen through the half from Ben Davison, Ryan
Dowling, Craig Whiting and Dave Hadris.
The second half started with more promise from the visitors but very quickly
Dave Hadris popped out from behind a maul to place the ball over the line for
another try which was unconverted. Erith
made several attempts to get into the game with strong runs by their winger but
he ran into an unbreakable wall of bodies and was stopped dead in his tracks. A’s registered another try with a powerful
interception run by Whiting who then ran 60 metres to place the ball down over
the line for another converted try to make the score 38-0. Shortly afterwards full back Ryan Dowling ran
in another try just to the left of the posts which was converted. Two further tries were added in quick
succession generated from powerful runs by the two Davison through the centre
of the field which maintained pressure on the visitors lines with superb and
very quick support from the front row forwards, Parker, Paul Knight and
Alistair Parker which forced errors by the visitors and numerous penalties in
their half. A’s, now extremely confident
kicked all to touch and used the driving maul to good effect and maintained
excellent defence to prevent any chance of a consolation try by Erith. Parker registered his third try (that’s a jug
for you Parker) which was converted to bring the final score to 62-0.
Erith never really seemed to get
into the match and it whilst it was a decent win we really needed more of a challenge
with next week’s return match against Sittingbourne looming. We can certainly expect more of a challenge
from them given the defeat we suffered against them in November.
Anchorians Man of Match was
Alistair Parker for continual powerful attacking and defensive moves.
Captain Adam Davison commented ‘A
good win on the back of the performance against Dartford. We are really up for the match next
week. I honestly believe that if we were
to take on Sittingbourne now, even after that physical game we would be a hard
team to beat. A’s are chasing promotion
this year and we really want to prove that we can do it.’
